Description: "01/31/1975: 30 members of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) kidnapped Canadian born Eric Leupin, 53, the honorary Dutch Consul in Cali and a businessman, at his lumber farm near his southwestern Colombia villa. The group demanded a ransom of $1 million and the release of the FARC member imprisoned in 1971. Leupin's wife was arrested on 05/03/1976, attempting to deliver a $50,000 ransom. On 10/03/1976, he was released unharmed in Cali. The Dutch government denied that the Embassy or any governmental officials had negotiated for Leupin's release and did not pay the ransom, denying all knowledge of the amount paid."
