Description: "02/18/2008: A suicide car bomber killed 37 civilians in a busy marketplace targeting North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO)-led Canadian troops in Spin Boldak, Kandahar Province, Afghanistan, at approximately 2:30 p.m. Thirty-eight civilians were injured in this attack along with the Canadian soldiers. The Governor of Kandahar, Assadullah Kahlid, told reporters that the bomber was in a car, which he drove towards a convoy of Canadian troops serving with NATO. He said most of the casualties were Afghan nationals but said two foreign soldiers had died and four others had been injured. A local police official said a military vehicle was badly damaged in the blast, as well as several shops. Two entities claimed responsibility for this attack: the Taliban and a Taliban splinter group named Jaish-e-Muslimeen led by Mullah Sayed Mohammad. Subsequently, seven members of the latter were arrested in connection with this attack along with two other suicide attacks in Kandahar. More than 100 shops were either destroyed or damaged after the explosion caused a fire. Most of the victims were shopkeepers."
